Essa é a história de Otieno, um orfão de doze anos que vive em Kibera, uma das maiores favelas do mundo. Otieno vive com os Razors, uma gangue de ladrões. Depois de um roubo que dá errado, Otieno se vê forçado a escolher entre salvar a vida de um homem inocente e os Razors, a única família que ele conhece.

This is the story of Otieno a twelve-year old orphan living in Kibera, one of the world’s largest slums. Otieno lives with the Razors, a gang of petty thieves. After a theft gone bad, Otieno is forced to choose between saving an innocent man’s life and the razors, the only family he knows.

Antigamente, era preciso se esforçar para ouvir a conversa dos outros; agora, é preciso fazer esforço para não as ouvir. “A Intimidade de Estranhos” é uma história sobre a vida, o amor, a perda e a esperança – inteiramente construída de conversas reais de estranhos aleatórios, falando nos seus telefones celulares. Explorando o conflito entre o privado e o público, entre ser íntimo mas distante, o documetário tece essas trocas aparentemente aleatórias para criar uma história moderna de amor que é ao mesmo tempo absurda e terna.

You used to have to make an effort to overhear other people’s conversations; now you have to make an effort not to. ‘The Intimacy of Strangers’ is a story of life, love, loss and hope - entirely constructed out of real, overheard cell phone conversations of random strangers. Exploring the conflict between the private and public, between being intimate yet distant, the documentary weaves these seemingly random exchanges into a modern-day love story that is both absurd and tender.
